Public Education - Effective School Board Governance

Does your school board function in a way that puts the students first and foremost in all decision making? Do personal agendas and politics interfere with the process at times? There are many models of school board governance, and each has value. However, the reality is trustees are democratically elected by their constituents, and if they wish to be re-elected, they must lobby and debates issues that are in the best interests of the parents and students they represent.

Is it possible for school board trusties to function collectively, thereby assuring a positive environment for staff and students, or do they get mired down with the political agenda of individuals?

The answer? Yes

Trustees in fact can have it both ways, and still effectively function as a "team" to develop policy and give direction to the system.
