John has always been a believer in public service and volunteering.

* Coaching minor hockey

* Special Olympics - Kitchener, Ontario

* City of Waterloo - Appointment to the RIM Park Financial Review

* City of Waterloo 150th Anniversary Celebrations, 2007

* Rotary Children's Center (now known as KidsAbility) School Board (two years as Chair of the Board)

* Wilfrid Laurier Alumni Association Board of Directors

* Cabinet Appointment to the Minister's Advisory Council on Special Education


* Hosted twenty-eight International Youth Exchange students from twelve different countries
